Our MSc inMarketing and Leadership is delivered part-time which allows you to balance study with family and work commitments. It enables you to apply what you learn directly to your workplace and support your career progression. This course is aimed at experienced marketing professionals, including both current and future leaders, keen to progress into roles involving the development of market strategy, managing customer relationships and contributing to business growth. You will learn specialist and advanced subjects relating to customers and markets, value propositions, growth and innovation, marketing communications, customer relationships, delivery channels and marketing strategy effectiveness. You will also gain an understanding of contemporary business issues and develop the capacity to assume leadership roles by participating in modules relating to leadership and organisational behaviour, enterprise, performance and risk management and accounting and finance.

UK students The MSc route of this part-time course meets the requirements of the Level 7 Senior Leader Master’s Degree Apprenticeship Standard. Eligible organisations will be able to use £18,000 of their Apprenticeship Levy to cover the tuition fees. Course structure Our Marketing and Leadership MSc has marketing strategy embedded throughout the course. It develops general management skills, as well as specialist and advanced subjects relating to strategic marketing. This course covers the core subjects in a series of 12 modules. These are delivered in one-week residential sessions over a two-year period. Alongside the seven residential weeks, 20% is delivered through a mix of online and face-to-face learning. The course is highly interactive and student-centred with large elements of teamwork, group projects and private study. The independent work-based project commences in the second half of the second year. You will tackle live company challenges, with the support of academic experts and company-based professionals.

Assessed by a combination of written assessments that relate to a wide range of marketing and leadership themes, projects, presentations and the occasional exam.

Assessed by individual coursework, Capstone event and End Point Assessment (EPA).

Independent work-based project Commences in the second half of the second year and is assessed by individual coursework. You will tackle live company challenges, with the support of academic experts and company-based professionals. Following its completion you will complete your final module at Cranfield, which is designed to explore and facilitate the integration of learning between you and your peers by sharing your independent work-based project experiences at a Capstone conference. This will also help you prepare for your End Point Assessment (EPA), which is a requirement of the apprenticeship standard.

Academic staff

Our faculty are renowned in their field, with broad industry experience. They work with operating boards of numerous global businesses, ensuring that their lectures are contemporary and stimulating. They are supported by a team of visiting speakers and professors from around the world.

Professor Vasilis Theoharakis, Course Director, Professor of Strategic Marketing Vasilis has spent several years in Silicon Valley at senior level marketing and business development positions and has co-founded successful high-tech start-ups. He is a partner and member of the management team of the PJ Tech Catalyst venture capital fund. His academic research focuses on strategic marketing, new product development and entrepreneurship. He has published in leading academic marketing and has been among the most downloaded authors worldwide on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN). Vasilis has extensive experience consulting national and international firms and is actively involved in executive education. Professor Stan Maklan, Professor of Marketing and Technology Stan is an experienced academic, marketeer and management consultant with senior, international line management experience in blue chip consumer and business marketing companies. He directs the Marketing Leaders Programme, is on the Editorial Advisory Board of the International Journal of Market Research and is a member of the Academic Liaison Committee at the Chief Marketing Officers Council. Stan's research focuses on big data – marketing analytics, customer relationship management, customer experience, marketing measurement and accountability and marketing leadership. Dr Valentina Battista, Lecturer in Human Resource Management Valentina’s research focuses on the interactions between technology and Human Resource Management (HRM). In particular, she investigates the impact of technology advancement on work, the workforce, and the workplace. Valentina regularly attends academic and practitioner conferences on the future of work, presenting the findings from her research. Prior to joining academia, Valentina held managerial roles working closely with the people management function and supporting the decision-making process in different organisations.

Entry requirements

Normally between three and ten years' post-qualification marketing work experience with a first or second class UK honours degree (or international equivalent). if candidates do not have a good first degree, we will consider a professional qualification together with five years' post-qualification work experience. We will also evaluate other relevant qualifications, together with significant experience.

The Apprenticeship Levy The Apprenticeship Levy is a levy on UK employers with a pay bill of more than £3 million. An organisation can use its levy to fund apprenticeship training against approved apprenticeship standards. These standards are developed by industry-led Trailblazer Groups and are based on occupational competence, and the knowledge, skills and behaviours of particular roles. The standard combines on-the-job experience, and off-the-job training with an academic qualification.

This Cranfield MSc course fulfils the requirements of the Level 7 Senior Leader Master’s Degree Apprenticeship Standard. This means your organisation may use its levy funds to sponsor you on our MSc programme. Sponsored employees must have the right to work in the UK with their main place of work being England.
