“[Our learner cohort] are all highly intelligent and engaged, and we needed a programme that we knew would stretch and challenge them, growing their confidence and helping them to progress in their current role and within the firm to help us pursue our strategic agenda… [Cranfield met] the appetite from the group head-on, with a practised and commercial approach that matches well with Aon’s values.” Julie Hyett UK Talent Lead, Aon

A game changer for UK leadership talent

The Senior Leader Executive Programme recognises how critical effective leadership, strategic thinking and networking are for successful operational efficiency, financial performance and the experience of customers, clients and colleagues.

Your employer’s investment in you The Senior Leader Executive Programme is mapped to the Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship - the most senior development tool funded by the government’s Apprenticeship Levy. Introduced in 2017, the Apprenticeship Levy gives employers more discretion and purchasing power to develop their people and can be used from entry level roles up to development for existing leaders. Your employer is making a £14,000 investment in each apprentice undertaking this programme. By working with you to facilitate and support strategic work-based projects, provide networking opportunities and approve your Strategic Business Proposal, your employer anticipates that you have the potential to add real value and impact to the business. On top of this, your employer is sponsoring at least six hours of your working week towards your learning - making this a significant monetary and capacity investment in your personal development. You will be expected to apply your theoretical learnings on business and topical issues, and put them into practice in order to add value and create significant strategic impact.

Who should attend The Senior Leader Executive Programme is designed for individuals or groups of existing leaders or senior managers with 5-7 years experience in a leadership/management role. Achieve a recognised qualification On completion of the Senior Leader Executive Programme you will achieve the CMI’s Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice, and attain Chartered Manager Fellow status (CMgr FCMI). Benchmarked at Masters level, this apprenticeship and professional qualification will demonstrate your enhanced knowledge, skills and behaviours, enabling you to consult, shape and drive your operational and strategic organisational agenda.

Programme structure

The programme is made up of two parts:

Senior Leader Executive Programme - 15 months The programme is delivered through face-to-face residentials at Cranfield and live online sessions. To be successful and reach your full potential, you will need to be open to exploring new knowledge, skills and behaviours ‘in the moment’. By experimenting with different tools and techniques, recording your practice and receiving feedback, you will directly apply your newly acquired competencies in your workplace. One-to-one support will be provided by an apprenticeship tutor, who will help you to monitor your progress and assist you with translating your learning into practice. Guest speakers, both from your organisation and from a variety of industry sectors, will be invited to deliver on topical areas associated with current business challenges. Strategic Business Proposal and Professional Discussion End Point Assessment (EPA) – 5 months You will develop a strategic business proposal with scope across any themes: • Review or implement a three year change plan, • Implement a direct saving across your area, • Create a growth plan for the next financial year, • Develop a strategic investment case, • Respond to a change in legislation or process. You will present the proposal, which should address a real business issue, and be questioned on it to showcase your learning.

What to expect

• You will be expected to drive business improvement and growth from the outset of your apprenticeship, using theoretical and practical learning content, including an authentic and consultative leadership approach, advocated by one of the UK’s top business schools. • You will already have 5-7 years senior management and leadership experience and will want to upskill and grow professionally and personally, as you take the next steps in your career. • You will need to take a step back from your day job and focus on the key opportunities for you, your function and your organisation. • You will need to commit off-the-job (OTJ) training hours throughout the duration of your programme. These training hours must deliver new skills in the apprentice’s normal working hours. The volume of OTJ must be linked to the initial assessment of the apprentice and therefore may be more than the minimum 6 hours per week.

“ The course has helped clarify so many things for me in terms of my skills and my strengths, my weaknesses and where the gaps are in my learning. The quality of the teaching and facilitation has been stellar and has given much food for thought.” Paul Crayford, CRE Executive Director – UK & EMEA AON

“The bit that I think is absolutely brilliant, especially when I talk to people around the business that have done other courses, is that it ties in with your day job. The subject matter and what you’re talking about with your peers on the programme are all things that you’re doing day to day.”
